The Philippines is an island country that is situated in the South East regions of Asia. The arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in Homonhon, Eastern Samar in 1521 marked the beginning of Spanish colonization. In 1543, the Spanish explorer Ruy López de Villalobos named the archipelago Las Islas Filipinas. With the arrival of Miguel López de Legazpi from Mexico City, in 1565, the first Spanish settlement in the archipelago was established.
The Philippines is an Island nation that has the cultures from many parts of the world. The people and the cultures has a mix between asian, spanish and portoguese influences. This also goes to the food and rituals. Its a country where the population are largely Christian with some minorities which includes Muslim, buddhists and hindus.
